The New Life School of Worship is a ten-month program composed of three class modules and one module of course intensives. Throughout the duration of the program students will also fulfill ministry commitments. Additionally, students will take private lessons during the class modules. Students will be evaluated on the basis of class and project grades, private lessons performance, and the fulfillment of ministry commitments. MINISTRY COMMITMENTS
New Life School of Worship Students will receive a ministry grade for their participation in the following areas:
Worship Services: Students will be required to attend our Sunday evening service at New Life Church as part of their ministry participation.
New Life Worship Office: In order to see the day-to-day running of a worship ministry, students will be required to complete a minimum number of hours every module serving the practical needs of the ministry, shadowing staff members, and attending worship staff meetings.
New Life Church Staff Chapel: The New Life Church Staff meets every Thursday morning for a time of worship, prayer and teaching. Students will be required to attend this meeting as part of their Ministry Commitments.
World Prayer Center: The World Prayer Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with continuous worship and prayer. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a one-hour time slot to lead in worship beginning in Module 2 of the program. This is an opportunity to learn about the Revelation 5 model of worship and intercession by actually doing it.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Students are expected to take voice lessons during at least one class module, as well as study an accompaniment instrument of either guitar or piano for two class modules as part of the School of Worship curriculum. Lessons are taken 10 weeks out of each class module. Students choose their instructor from a pre-approved list provided the New Life School of Worship.
OTHER WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Furnace: The Furnace is a discipleship program based out of the college ministry of New Life church, which equips young people through intimacy, intercession, and discipleship. The Furnace holds weekend conferences encouraging young people to live radical lives of holiness, prayer, and fasting. School of Worship students may participate in any of their six, two-hour prayer meetings each week.
New Life Small Groups Ministry: There are over 1000 groups at New Life Church - from dog training and snow boarding, to prayer and studying the book of Romans. Through these, students can connect to the body at New Life and serve in a practical way. The small groups follow a semester schedule: Fall, Spring and Summer. Students may have the opportunity to lead worship in one of these groups as well.
Other Local Churches and Ministries: In the course of a year, students may be called on to serve in worship at another local church. Colorado Springs is home to many churches and ministries: Focus on the Family, Compassion International, International Bible Society, the Navigators, Campus Crusade... just to name a few. Students are welcome to serve or volunteer at another local church or any para-church ministry gaining experience in a field of choice beginning in January. For those from the city who are currently serving at a local church, alternative arrangements may be made to fulfill your requirements for local church involvement
